rhythm
Music has forever been something very close to my first love. Something about it has always just made sense to me, like it is somehow more Real than the reality I usually inhabit. Anne Lamott says, “Music is about as physical as it gets: your essential rhythm is your heartbeat; your essential sound, the breath... we’re walking temples of noise.”
In music, notes are written on paper, but they actually don’t exists in or on the page — they’re actually somewhere else. Actually, they’re nowhere, really, until a musical instrument plays them or a voice sings them. But when that happens, and when notes are played well, and when they are in tune, and on pitch, and played with a beautiful timbre…
Now, that sounds like Real real life to me.
